The main purpose of a security audit is to improve the protection of the client, staff and assets by examining and evaluating the overall effectiveness of the client's existing security arrangements.
The areas which are studied in detail include the following areas (but are not limited to them!)
- Intelligence - How well does the company know its employees, environment and competitors, and how aware are they of the criminal threat they face? What risk analysis has been done?
- Security manpower - does the company have sufficient manpower to meet its needs? Are they sufficiently trained? Are they all reliable? Do they meet the minimum standards? Have they been vetted properly?
- Are you getting the service for which you contracted? Are you being supplied with the right grade guards? Are you getting the right equipment? Do you really know what you need or are you being influenced by what the guarding company wants you to have?
- Technology - Is the technology in place suitable? Is it overkill or inadequate?
- Procedures and systems - Does the company have sufficient checks and controls in place to secure its assets?
- Security vulnerability testing - Can the company's systems withstand a concerted effort to penetrate its defences? How safe is intellectual property within the company? How safe is the warehouse from large scale theft?
Once these are other aspects have been evaluated, a detailed security plan is prepared and submitted to the client, focussing on upgrading the level of security and reducing the security budget.
Remember: pro-active security is an integral part of saving company money, increasing performance and delivering competitive advantage!
